Box cores recover a large volume of the uppermost sediments on the seabed with minimal disturbance. The sampling box can be detached and moved for analysis. MARSSAM has three sizes of box cores. Box core frames could be modified to attach imaging equipment if needed, which is commonly employed for ferromanganese nodule density assessments.
