Vibracore

Vibracores (as the name suggests) advance a lined core barrel into the sediment using vibration. They are primarily used to sample sandy sediments that can’t be cored with gravity based coring devices. MARSSAM has an Ocean Instruments RIC5500 pneumatic vibracore capable of operating in up to 100m of water, obtaining 8 mm diameter cores up to 6 m in length.

MARSSAM has run a RIC5500 off of a small boat during expeditions. We maintain a generator and cabled winch for operations outside of standard ARF stern deployment.
